Warrior 101: Happenings within BCS Classrooms – Elementary Tech
by Will McDaniel
In Elementary Tech, we are using CodeMonkey.com as our main source of code based training (Kindergarten is using CodeMonkey Jr.). CodeMonkey is a direction based coding system that works with problem solving and line-by-line coding order sequencing.
First through fifth grade are working with CodeMonkey as a point and click programming system that allows the student to see code as they are dragging and dropping code in a working environment. The students can see code along with the actual solutions. They are pressed on the problem solving side of Object Oriented Programming. They can learn to code and are pressed to use correct programming structures as loop and nested loops to solve the problem with as concise of code as possible.
Students in third through fifth grade are learning keyboarding skills as well.
